GOALS: John Maxwell's "A Minute With Maxwell"

Success is a Goal

Hi all.

Have you ever wondered how you can become more satisfied in life - how you can enjoy life more than ever?
  • Clarity accounts for probably 80% of success and happiness.
  • Lack of clarity is more responsible for frustration and underachievement than any other single factor. That’s why we say that "Success is goals and all else is commentary."
People with clear, written goals, accomplish far more in a shorter period of time than people without them could ever imagine.

This is true everywhere and under all circumstances.
You could even say that the three keys to high achievement are, "Clarity, Clarity, Clarity," with regard to your goals. Your success in life will be largely determined by how clear you are about what it is you really, really want.

The Seven Step Process for Setting and Achieving Your Goals
  1. First, decide exactly what you want in each area of your life. Be specific!
  2. Second, write it down, clearly and in detail.
  3. Third, set a specific deadline. If it is a large goal, break it down into sub-deadlines and write them down in order.
  4. Fourth, make a list of everything you can think of that you are going to have to do to achieve your goal. As you think of new items, add them to your list.
  5. Fifth, organize the items on your list into a plan by placing them in the proper sequence and priority.
  6. Sixth, take action immediately on the most important thing you can do on your plan. This is very important!
  7. Seventh, do something every day that moves you toward the attainment of one or more of your important goals. Maintain the momentum!
Only by discovering your innate strengths...by developing them...exploiting them to their highest degree--can you ever fully realize the greatest amount of satisfaction and enjoyment in everything you do.

How To Grow Your List (Part 1)

One of the biggest misconceptions that I see in the business world is that you don't need a mailing list. There is an old saying that goes, "the money is in the list". For some reason, many business owners don't realize how accurate and important this statement really is.

I was talking to a client recently who said that he would rather continue trying to find new clients month after month than try to build a mailing list. He said it was too technical and too hard to keep up with. In fact, nothing could be further from the truth.
It's much easier to market to a group of people who already know, like and trust you. This is exactly what an e-mail marketing list does. If you continue to provide value to your list each and every month, they will start to refer their own friends and family as well. So how do you build an e-mail list?
The first thing you need to do is set up an account with an autoresponder service. One are several popular ones (Aweber, Constant Contact), but MadMimi.com is a great low-cost (even free) starting point. There are others as well, but you do need to do your research to make sure you find the right one. Some of them have problems with deliverability while others are more geared towards certain business models.

Business Implementation plan

Even the most well-thought-out business plan is just a stack of paper if it isn’t coupled with a plan for implementation. This is the portion of the business plan where you’ll clarify objectives, assign tasks with deadlines, and chart your progress in reaching goals and milestones. Here are some guidelines for successful business plan implementation:
Objectives: Your objectives should be crystal clear and specifically spelled out, since you’ll use them as a building block for the rest of the implementation plan. For example, let’s assume your startup is a small consulting firm. Your objective should be tough but reachable.
