How To Grow Your List (Part 1)

One of the biggest misconceptions that I see in the business world is that you don't need a mailing list. There is an old saying that goes, "the money is in the list". For some reason, many business owners don't realize how accurate and important this statement really is.

I was talking to a client recently who said that he would rather continue trying to find new clients month after month than try to build a mailing list. He said it was too technical and too hard to keep up with. In fact, nothing could be further from the truth.
It's much easier to market to a group of people who already know, like and trust you. This is exactly what an e-mail marketing list does. If you continue to provide value to your list each and every month, they will start to refer their own friends and family as well. So how do you build an e-mail list?
The first thing you need to do is set up an account with an autoresponder service. One are several popular ones (Aweber, Constant Contact), but MadMimi.com is a great low-cost (even free) starting point. There are others as well, but you do need to do your research to make sure you find the right one. Some of them have problems with deliverability while others are more geared towards certain business models.
